Arsenal Dominate United, Chelsea Thrash Southampton, and Aston Villa Triumph Over Brentford in Premier League Showdowns

NEWCASTLE, ENGLAND – Mohamed Salah scored twice as Liverpool fought back to draw 3-3 with Newcastle United on Wednesday, reducing their lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points.

Liverpool appeared poised to secure all three points until Newcastle’s Fabian Schär capitalized on a goalkeeper error from Caoimhín Kelleher in the 90th minute to level the score.

With the draw, Liverpool, under Arne Slot, now sit on 35 points, while Chelsea and Arsenal trail by seven points after dominant victories. Chelsea hammered 10-man Southampton 5-1, while Arsenal cruised to a 2-0 win over Manchester United, handing new manager Ruben Amorim his first league defeat.

In other fixtures, Manchester City ended a seven-match winless run with a convincing 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Everton eased relegation concerns with a 4-0 thrashing of Wolves, while Aston Villa bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Brentford.

At St. James’ Park, Newcastle led early through a stunning strike from Alexander Isak. However, Salah’s brilliance turned the game in Liverpool’s favor. After setting up Curtis Jones for an equalizer, Salah’s two goals looked to secure the win, but Schär’s dramatic late equalizer salvaged a point for the hosts.

Manager Arne Slot admitted Liverpool’s first-half performance was lacking but praised their second-half response. “3-3 was probably a fair result,” he said, reflecting on the contrasting halves. Salah, now leading the Premier League’s scoring charts with 13 goals, also set a new record for consecutive games with a goal or assist (37).

In London, Arsenal overcame Manchester United with second-half goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba. Timber scored from a Declan Rice corner, while Saliba capitalized on a deflected header. Amorim acknowledged Arsenal’s strong set-piece play as the deciding factor in the game.

Chelsea dominated Southampton, taking the lead through Axel Disasi, only for Joe Aribo to equalize. A mistake by Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu handed Chelsea a second goal, and Noni Madueke extended the advantage. A red card for Jack Stephens compounded the Saints’ woes, and late goals from Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho sealed the 5-1 victory.

Manchester City broke their winless streak with goals from Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, and Jeremy Doku to defeat Nottingham Forest 3-0. City captain De Bruyne emphasized the team’s determination to “change the momentum” after a series of disappointing results.

Aston Villa claimed a 3-1 victory over Brentford, with first-half goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Matty Cash. Although Mikkel Damsgaard pulled one back for Brentford, Villa’s win ended an eight-match winless run.

In the day’s final match, Everton secured a resounding 4-0 win over Wolves. At 39 years old, Ashley Young became the club’s oldest scorer, while Wolves’ Craig Dawson scored two own goals. The defeat left Wolves second from bottom, with fans expressing frustration over manager Gary O’Neil’s tactics.

With these results, the Premier League table has tightened, promising intense battles as the season heads into its next phase.
